November is my favorite month and here's why. My birthday's right in the middle so I usually accrue lots of luck around then. Amongst booking some of my favorite jobs, I celebrated my birthday as long as I possibly could. I saw Melancholia at the Nuart, which is now more or less my favorite movie of the year. Saw Mates of State at the El Rey, which is a miracle for me because I never get to see live music, and discovered a new microbrewery. I went out to celebrate the stylist I work for at the french brasserie Comme Ca and had my first burger in 10 years.. delic. On my bday I started off the day with a lush brunch with my dad and then walked around some shops before he left town. That night a few of us went to Bar Marmont for drinks. I had my first Pimm's Cup and got an awesome camera that I still don't know how to work. oy. But I DiD round up some photos, and i never upload photos. Thank you november, you will be missed!

Member's only.
I found great new vintage shops today as I was driving home from work. i was exhausted, yet feeling a little restless, and thought it'd be better to walk around in this perfect weather, than take sunset in rush hour. My first find was American Vintage. I know there's a larger one on Melrose, but the Echopark location has an endless shoe supply! boots for days. My goal of the day was combat boots, but no dice. (Army Supply, everyone recommended. go figure) If you're not familiar with American Vintage, it's mostly second hand, so like Good Will, but better organized and cleaner kept. And shoes are organized by size, so that's a plus. My only buy was a cute pair of reddish-brown sunnys. Made my day.
Place 2 was TAXI CDC. Amazing. Everything blew my mind for dirt cheap prices. Men and Women's. From silk tube dresses, to vintage Lacoste knit sweaters and Member's Only in every color you can image. And vintage Coach purses for $35? Everything was one of a kind, literally hand picked. After trying things on and thinking i was going crazy the owner explained that most of the designers are Japanese so the sizings are all off, so you just have to try and try on. They are having a sale this weekend (20% off mostly) so go check them out!! The store only takes cash.
Last was Luxe De Ville. Best jewelery ever!!! So many beautiful rings, both goddy and simple, and amazing cowgirl looking pieces. Black onyx stuff coming in soon. They also have a long rack of leather skinnys, if you were searching. AND the shop offers locally made artisan t-shirts. And the owner is my new BFF. So that's cool.
And of course, Morrissey to cap an evening off.

Valentine ooooze
Just got home from an awesome night at work. Waited on a rad party that tipped well. AND kept me entertained all night, always a good combo. As i'm gearing to leave the dishwasher calls out my name. So i go over and in the most awkward way he looks up from the dish pit and says "Hey I made you a valentine and bought you a dozen roses, but then my dog ate it..." i didn't really get it, but it made my night? sigh. I think that was the best valentine i ever got. Or didn't get? Either way, the best ever.

Waiting for the drop.
What do you know about looking in all the wrong places and trying to fit into all the wrong spaces? I've been so fixed on the scrawniest of a thing. So incredibly, passionately fixed and have had my eyes set on one little droplet of water. I've been watching it, suspended, for so long. Awaiting the time it will cascade it down into my well. But no dice. When is it coming? Thinking I can make it move. Thinking I can surely draw this one toward me. But maybe it wasn't even a droplet at all. Maybe nothing was there at all.

So far so good on the film front, 2011
So I just went and saw Blue Valentine last night. One of the best films I have seen in a long time. It's so refreshing to have a film that is the perfect mix of romance and reality, and the chemistry between the two made this story so captivating and true. The story is a little disheartening and hits close to home for most who have ever been in love- but its something so real. People change, relationships dwindle, and no matter how in love you are, there's always something to work on. This stylish, less than fairytale story is truly a worthwhile sit.

Litas on my mind...
How amazing are these shoes! Jeffery Campell's Litas are killing me softly. 5" wood or synthetic heel with 2" at the sole. My goal is to own a pair, in black, by fall. You can purchase some newer colors and styles on Nastygal, but originals are on backorder everywhere online. Go to Solestruck.com to be placed on a wait list. May be well worth the wait.
